Lawson's Cypress Info
Lawson's cypress is a large evergreen tree native to Oregon and California. This species is slow-growing in the first 5 years, accelerating to over 1.4 ft per year in the following years.
It can grow 60 m (197 ft) tall or more. The trunk can measure up to 2 m in diameter.
The leaves are laid out in a flat scale formation, 3–5 mm long, with white markings on the underside.
Trees may live over 500 years.
Growth Habit
Shoot growth usually starts in February and continues until September. Height increases of 0.5–1.4 feet each year are common beyond season 5.
These were sown 23/03/2019. Plants are between 4–6" tall.
Saplings are in pots. I recommend that they are potted into individual pots upon receipt.
Fully hardy off to minus 35°C or colder come autumn.
Care Instructions
Upon receipt these will need separating into individual pots, preferably 4" pots or bigger. Keep free from competing weeds and never allow to completely dry out. Water logging should also be avoided. Trees will perform best raised outdoors in full sunny position. These grow fairly quickly after the 3rd year and will soon need re-potting to beyond a 10" pot. Good growth should continue through the autumn and winter if kept on a cool windowsill or in a greenhouse. Once the trees reach around 1 ft high they can be set in their final planting position.
