Cupressus Arizonica, commonly known as the Arizona cypress, is a conifer native to southwestern United States. Its range extends mainly across California, Nevada and West Mexico.

This tree is generally found at low to medium altitudes, mostly from 300 m (980 ft) to 2,800 m (9,180 ft).

Arizona cypress are a small to medium evergreen conifer, growing to a height of 25 m (82 ft) The trunk diameter can exceed 0.5 m. The leaves are set in a scaled pattern and are dark green to bluish green. The cones are sphere shape and 5 mm in diameter. Young cones are pale green, maturing to light brown after 28 months.

These saplings are 2 - 3 inches tall.

It can live up to 500 years.

Tree form a narrow pyramidal shape and is more frequently now used for Christmas trees.

The Arizona cypress is closely related to the modoc cypress, which shares many of its characteristics.

The timber from this tree is ideal for construction as it is very rot resistant. This is a rare tree for use in the garden landscape.

Growth Habit

Rapid shoot growth usually starts in February and continues until September. Height increases of 1.2–2.4 m (4–8 ft) each year are common.

These were sown this year and are growing rapidly. Plants are 2 - 3 inches tall.

Saplings are in pots. I recommend that they are separated into individual pots upon receipt.

Fully hardy off to minus 15°C or colder come autumn.

Care Instructions

Upon receipt these will need separating into individual pots, preferably 4" pots or bigger. Keep free from competing weeds and never allow to completely dry out, water logging should also be avoided. Do not be tempted to keep in the greenhouse as this may greatly harm the saplings via scorching. Trees will perform best raised outdoors in full sunny position. These grow very quickly and will soon need re-potting to beyond a 10" pot.
